Moewaka Dunster - of Ngai Tai and Whakatohea descent, has lived in Opotiki all her life and is a graduate of Opotiki College. “With a place in her heart for everyone she meets ”she has represented her whanau, hapū and iwi and Opotiki College community as a strong impassioned rangatahi leader. To her credit she has implemented some remarkable programmes that empower rangatahi at the College. She has a passion and gift for understanding people and on gaining her qualifications has a strong desire to return and give back to her community in the specialised field of Hauora Maori.
In 2021 Moewaka begins her studies toward a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology at Otago University.
Tahliah Temple - of Ngati Rua, Ngati Ira and Whakatohea descent, “it takes a village to raise a child” Tahliah credits who she is now to being influenced by the strong leadership and role models of her whānau, hapū and being active in iwi events. She graduated from Trident High and received awards for academics and in recognition of her strong leadership qualities.
In 2021 she will study a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in screen and media at Waikato University. The skills she will gain will enable her to return home and work on her long-term goal to preserve for future generations the significant knowledge and wisdom of the kaumatua pertaining to whakapapa and the whenua (ngā taonga tuku iho).
Clayden Hope – born and bred in Gisborne his whanau is immersed in Horticulture and Agriculture. Clayden really enjoys this work and accordingly, his knowledge of horticulture and farming day-to-day operations is extensive. Throughout his life he has worked hard to overcome adversity through self determination to develop himself into an empowering and inspirational leader. He is a top achiever in academics, in sports, at Gisborne Boys High School and in the wider Gisborne community.
He is passionate about Agri-commerce and Gisborne and wants to broaden his knowledge further with formal qualifications so he can contribute to the growth of the industry and the region. In 2021 he will study for a Bachelor of Agri commerce at Massey University in Palmerston North his intention is to return to Gisborne to give back.
